Exempt: Doctors serving in U. S. regular armed forces during part of the 12 months preceding January 1 are exempt from the CE requirements.

New Licensee
Exempt: Doctors are exempt from CE requirements for the year in which they are initially licensed. For example, a doctor licensed on July 1, 2015, is not required to obtain CE during 2015 in order to renew for 2016.

Obtain Course Approval
Providers/courses that are not pre-approved shall still submit an application to the Board for approval based on the same deadlines (two weeks prior to each Board meeting). However, the process has changed because you will now submit courses for approval through the CE Broker portal. The portal goes directly to TOB staff. Providers can sign up now! OE Tracker
Transcript: For doctors registered with OE Tracker, an original printout of the course history list from the OE Tracker Website will meet the Board’s rule requirements. Submit the printout to CE Broker. OE Tracker does not submit this list or the data for you.

Opioid Prescribing CE Requirement
Section 481.0764 of the Health and Safety Code requires all active optometric glaucoma specialists who prescribe or dispense opioids to take each year a one hour board approved continuing education course covering best practices, alternative treatment options, and multi-modal approaches to pain management that may include physical therapy, psychotherapy, and other treatments. Licensees will receive one D/T credit hour upon submission of written proof of completion of the approved course. These courses will be listed separately on the “Approved Courses” list on the website.
