Optometry School Graduation Prior to 1991

Did you graduate from Optometry School prior to January 1, 1991?

Have you been practicing therapeutic optometry for 5 of the last 7 years?

If you answered yes to both questions – you may be eligible to be licensed as a therapeutic optometrist under the License Without Examination procedure.

If you do not meet the requirements of the License Without Examination procedure, you may apply for license by taking the required NBEO examinations after the dates listed below:

  • Parts I and II of the NBEO on or after January 1, 1984,
  • Part III of the NBEO on or after June, 1994, and
  • TMOD on or after January 1985

You will also be required to have completed a concentrated ocular therapeutics course in 1991 or subsequent years. This is the same requirement for Texas licensees obtaining a therapeutic license. Information can be obtained by contacting the Board.
